About Prof. Rob Wilson
An applied academic with more than 20 years’ experience in higher education where he has contributed more than 100 peer-reviewed outputs and featured across UK sporting media for a decade.
His work has seen him consult for some of the biggest names in the soccer industry, including the Football Association and English Football League.
He’s been cited in UK Parliament for his work on parachute payments and provided evidence for the proposals on the independent regulator in English football. A quick Google search on his work will see him attached to stories in football, rugby union, rugby league, cricket and many other sports, in all four corners of the world.
Rob founded Play it Forward Sports Advisory in 2021, to bring together the evidence base from his academic work and his industry connections. His goal was simple; to support those investing in sport make more effective decisions based on data and insight.
He’s one of the most recognisable faces in the business of sport and one of the most highly sought after academics to commentate on the finances of football. Running Play it Forward enables Rob to maintain the relationship between theory and practice.
